Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has become the first player in this dynasty to receive a player option on a long-term deal, now boasting the ability to opt out of his recent four-year, $100 million extension ahead of the 2023-24 season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Green recently agreed to lock up this long-term commitment, likely considering the financial complexities of navigating the free-agent market, as a potential supermax extension would be out of the Warriors' pockets and only five teams would have the means to sign him to a full max contract in free agency.
The defensive ace passed on the chance to make $235 million if he could lock up another Defensive Player of the Year award this upcoming season, but that number is only prospective, considering that was dependent on Green winning the award and the team willing to pay it. Both of them were considered unlikely, especially with him showing slight signs of decline as he nears 30 years old.

Green has clearly prioritized his legacy over his earning, though, and is among a core of three stars who have sworn their loyalty to the franchise for the near future.
Curry, Thompson, Russell and Green could now spend at least their next three seasons together if it all goes well, putting this dynasty as one of the strongest ones forged since the NBA's early days.
