The Golden State Warriors and forward Alen Smailagic came to terms on a four-year deal on Saturday. The Serbian forward will get $6.13 million with his first two years non-guaranteed:

Smailagic was the 39th pick in the 2019 draft. He was selected by the Pelicans before being swapped to the Warriors for cash and future second-round picks.

The young big man has impressed so far in Summer League. As the youngest player in Summer League history, it wouldn't be a surprise if Smailagic struggled off the bat. While there have been moments where his youth shows, Smailagic has shown the ability to hit the three-pointer and some defensive prowess.

Clearly, the Warriors envision the young man to be part of their long term future. Four years is a pretty long contract to give someone drafted in the second round. The team must like what they see early on, enough to trust Smailagic to develop into a serviceable NBA player.

While the team isn't exactly in rebuild mode, it's a longshot that they contend this year. They lost Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson will be out for what looks like the majority of the season. Now would be a good time to give young players some playing time to prove that they can hold their own in the league.

Smailagic landed with a great organization, and now it's up to him to impress the former dynasty.
