Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has been known to ruffle some feathers with players due to his old-school methods and fiery attitude. Karl-Anthony Towns is no exception to that, yet the newly extended center has “tremendous respect” for his coach despite not always seeing eye-to-eye.

“Me and Thibs may not see eye-to-eye every day, but the one thing I know is we have tremendous respect for each other,” Towns told Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “Regardless of what happens, that respect is there. I know when I look in Thibs’ eyes and he looks in mine, we both have the same goal and that’s to win. Me and Thibs have a good understanding what we’re looking for out of each other.”

Towns is fresh off letting the ink dry on a five-year, $190 million max-level extension of his rookie deal, cementing him as one of the team's cornerstones next to budding mate Andrew Wiggins.

The Timberwolves will likely deal estranged forward Jimmy Butler in the near future, which should make this franchise Towns' to reign once again, this time taking the fate of this organization on his broad shoulders.

“It’s not about how ugly and pretty the W is, it’s about getting the win,” Towns said of the long and winding process toward his extension. “At the end of the day, both sides got what they wanted. We left that table extremely happy with the possibilities and the commitment made to each other.”

Towns will have to leave any differences he has with Thibodeau in the past, as he will enter his fourth season in the league with career averages of 21.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.
