Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio will be out indefinitely will a sprained right elbow, according to a team press release.

Rubio initially suffered the injury with 6:28 left in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 106-103 road loss to the Sacramento Kings.

The young Spanish international underwent an examination by the team's orthopedic surgeon, Diane Dahm of the Mayo Clinic, which confirmed the initial diagnosis of the sprain.

His status will be updated as the injury progresses. He averaged 4.5 points and 6.5 assists through two games in the season.

Rubio has been mired by injuries his whole NBA career, and the injury bug was likely to come back to bite him once again.

On a brighter note, this was the opportunity head coach Tom Thibodeau was waiting for as rookie Kris Dunn will be the likely beneficiary of this unfortunate situation.

Dunn will likely be at a trial by fire, forced to learn the point guard position by playing heavy minutes — but the talent around him is great and he will be able to keep his minutes intact as long as he keeps his signature style of defense that he's showcased throughout his college career.
