James Ennis is a serviceable wing player who has played for a couple of NBA teams. While some of these players decide to move on and get as much money as possible, Ennis decided to stick with the Philadelphia 76ers.
In an interview with Marc Narducci of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Long Beach State stalwart revealed that he got offers bigger than his curernt two-year, $4.1 million contract. However, he revealed that he chose to stay for different reasons:
“I wanted to come back here,” Ennis said on Thursday. “I had a couple of teams offer me more, but it is about long-term, and I really wanted to come back to Philly.”
NBA players have to find a place to stay in the city they will be playing in, and a journeyman does that more often than anyone. Ennis may have gotten tired of having to uproot himself time and time again and wanted something long-term for himself.
He has had a good career for someone who was drafted 50th in the 2013 Draft. He has career averages of 6.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 assists on 46% shooting and 36% from deep.
He has made stops across the entire country in his NBA career. His longest stay with a team was a three-year stint with the Memphis Grizzlies, followed by a two-year stay with the Miami Heat. The other teams he played for include the Sixers, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Pelicans.
He will be playing with one of the most exciting teams in the NBA. And with the East being wide open, there's a chance that he will finish this season as an NBA champion.
