It’s no secret that the Golden State Warriors defense has been way below the level it’s been over the past few years. The Warriors are currently 25th in defensive efficiency, a precipitous drop from last year’s rank of second. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn’t overly concerned by that fact, but he does point out that without defense, they’re basically playing a pick-up game.

The good news for Kerr is that his Golden State team is more than capable of winning those types of high-scoring shootouts thanks to all the firepower at their disposal. While their defense remains questionable, their offense is still outstanding and is far and away the most efficient in the league.

The Warriors can still put the clamps on their opponents defensively for stretches when they want to. But based on their first eight games of the season, it doesn’t seem as if they plan to come out with that type of consistently strong effort on that end of the court.

If that is indeed the case, Kerr will likely have to come to terms with the fact that he'll be watching a lot of pick-up-style games from his team this year.
