Bradley Beal was the single cog keeping the Washington Wizards alive after John Wall's midseason injury put them an All-Star short of deep contention for the Eastern Conference, but even his sturdy average of 22.6 points per game couldn't deny he felt gassed as he approached the end of the regular season and the consequently short-lived postseason run.

Beal admitted to putting on 20 pounds when his partner, Kamiah Adams, was pregnant with the couple's first child.

“Yes, I struggled with that last year at the end of the year,” said Beal, according to Candace Buckner of The Washington Post.

Beal was walking around at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, a much beefier frame inflated with late-night carbs that were a little more than his legs were used to carrying.

“Oh, pizza. It was always late-night pizza for me,” Beal said. “It was just pizza and ice cream. That’s all we ate — pizza and ice cream, pizza and ice cream.”

Since then, Beal was disgusted with the weight he put on, as well as the fast exit his Wizards saw as the eighth seed in the East, quickly shedding back the excess weight to get back to his normal 200-to-205-pound frame.

Washington now boasts a different look after shedding longtime starting center Marcin Gortat and acquiring Austin Rivers, also a first-time dad, and Dwight Howard as pivotal pieces to the puzzle.

As always, the team will go as far as Wall and Beal can carry them offensively, but now boasting an improved supporting cast and a few less carbs to slow them down in the quest for a wide-open East.
