Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence is one of the most highly-touted prospects in recent years. He could have easily chosen to opt-out of the upcoming college football season but ultimately decided to stay in South Carolina for one more year.

Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer shared the sentiments of Lawrence on why he chose to play in the upcoming season via Twitter:

Trevor Lawrence has been at the helm for the Tigers since the 2018 season. As a true freshman, he led his team to advance to the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship game, where they defeated Alabama, 44–16, handing the Crimson Tide their worst loss of the Nick Saban era.

Lawrence was named Offensive MVP of the championship game and became the first true freshman quarterback to start for a national champion since Jamelle Holieway did in 1985 for the Oklahoma Sooners. He also capped off his rookie season by bagging the National Freshman of the Year, Archie Griffin Award, and the ACC Rookie of the Year honors.

In his sophomore season, the 20-year old helped lead the Tigers to an undefeated regular season and an ACC Championship Game victory over the Virginia Cavaliers. The win eventually gave them the No. 3 ranking in the final College Football Playoff rankings.

Lawrence suffered the first defeat of his collegiate career in the CFP Championship Game against new Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers, as Clemson snapped its 29-game winning streak and went out on a 42-25 losing effort.

Heading into the upcoming season, Lawrence will aim to land another trip to the CFP Championship Game and put a fitting end to his decorated collegiate career.
