The Brooklyn Nets have been a source of agony for the team’s supporters for some years now, but guard Caris LeVert doesn’t want their fans to lose hope on them just yet. In fact, he wants them to be thrilled of the franchise’s future.

In an interview with Taylor Rooks of Time Out with Taylor Rooks, the second-year guard expressed his trust on the Nets’ ability to right the ship, beginning this coming season.

“I think they should be super excited,” he told Rooks. “We have a lot of new faces. We have a lot of guys with similar skillsets but at the same time, also very unique. We have a lot of wings but you have a guy like Allen (Crabbe) who can really shoot, you’ve got a guy like Rondae who can really defend and really finish around the basket.

LeVert can’t fault Brooklyn’s fans for being skeptic of the team after they were subjected to some of the most horrific basketball they’ve seen over the past three years, a span that saw the Nets go 79-167. That includes the pathetic 20-62 record the team put up last season.

Caris LeVert does have some points, however. The Nets have a solid backcourt in newcomer D’Angelo Russell and mainstay Jeremy Lin, especially if the latter is healthy. The signing of Allen Crabbe over the summer gives the Nets an extra pair of hands that can stretch the floor, while the addition of DeMarre Carroll should provide a little bit of everything for Brooklyn. LeVert also noted that his team is stacked with versatile players, who can play multiple positions a la Draymond Green.

“We have a lot of guys who are between 6’6” and 6’8” and that’s great in the league right now because you see a lot of undersized 4 men, a lot of guys like Draymond Green who can play the 4. We have a lot of guys who can do that, for sure. And I think that’s the position —if you have a great stretch 4, a great 4 who can defend multiple positions, then you’re in pretty good shape.”

Still, it would take more than an injection of a couple of role players to the team before the Nets could be taken seriously.
