The Detroit Lions own the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, but it's looking more and more like they won't be picking anyone at that spot.

Why? Because the Lions are attempting to trade down.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Detroit would prefer to take Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah or Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons, either one of whom (if not both) should be available at No. 5 or 6.

In that case, the Lions could trade down to one of those slots and add more picks in the process.

Breer added that Detroit general manager Bob Quinn, who has done work in NFL front offices for 21 years, has never been on a team that held a top-five pick. So, it's understandable as to why he would feel comfortable moving down.

Of course, Quinn was a part of the New England Patriots' organization from 2000 through 2015, so it's no wonder why he didn't witness any top-five selections during that time.

He took over as general manager of the Lions in 2016.

Regardless, it seems that Quinn may want to maximize his assets, which certainly makes sense given all of the holes up and down Detroit's roster.

The Lions are coming off of a 2019 campaign in which they went just 3-12-1. It should be noted that Detroit was ravaged by injuries for much of the season, most notably under center, where Matthew Stafford played in just eight games.

That doesn't change the fact that the Lions have a flawed roster and will be in need of some serious help come draft time.
