Free-agent NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has pleaded no contest to felony battery stemming from an incident with a moving truck driver back in January, according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com.
Brown will have to do 100 hours of community service and will be on two years probation. He will also have to undergo a mandatory psych evaluation.
The incident occurred when a moving truck was dropping off belongings at Brown's home in Florida. After a disagreement over payment escalated, Brown allegedly entered the driver's side cabin and begin physically striking the driver before being restrained by his associates.
Brown apparently did not want to pay the $4,000 fee, which initially led to the driver attempting to drive away. He then allegedly threw a rock at the truck, causing paint damage to the driver's side. The driver called the police to report the damage.
The moving company then told the driver to return to Brown's house to drop off his goods because he agreed to pay the $4,000 fee and for the damage caused to the vehicle. However, when the driver arrived back at Brown's house, Brown paid the original fee, but refused to pay more. That was when the argument intensified and the alleged assault occurred.
Brown has not played in the NFL since Week 2 of 2019, when he logged four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown for the New England Patriots. He was cut by the Patriots for sending threatening text messages to another woman.
The 31-year-old was originally supposed to play the 2019 campaign with the Oakland Raiders, but due to a string of incidents in training camp, he was ultimately released by the Raiders before the regular season began.
