Now that the 2019 NFL Draft has finally arrived, players are eager to learn their fates and where they ultimately end up. Although these prospects have quite the transition to make ahead of them, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre wants them to remember to have fun.
Favre, a former Packers star who also played for the Falcons, Jet and Vikings,, is certainly no stranger to the draft process. According toCecil Joyce of the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal, he shared some advice for this year's rookie class:
“I was accused early in my career of having too much fun and not being serious,” Favre said. I understand where some of the older guys were coming from. There was no way I would ever step on the football field unprepared. But, if you go out there and are prepared and do all you can do, now it's time to have fun. If you love doing something and are prepared, by all means have fun. That's what I did.”
There is certainly plenty of truth to Favre's comments. It is an approach that served him well throughout his illustrious career. His backyard antics and playful competitiveness made him an iconic figure during his generation as well as one of its most prolific passers in NFL history.
Like Favre, many of these players will go through their fair share of trials and tribulations early on in their careers. Some may even need a change-of-scenery after a couple of years. The important thing to remember is that they must take care of business and have fun doing it. This has often proven to be the recipe for success when it comes to prospects that enjoy long, productive careers.
