Now that Eric Weddle has been ousted from the Baltimore Ravens, speculation has arisen about whether he'll head for retirement. It appears Weddle plans to keep playing:

The Ravens officially announced Wednesday that Weddle has been officially cut from the team. The move was a bit unexpected, especially since he was a leader on a team that values their defense, which was ranked first in the entire NFL.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network says Weddle's termination from the team was a “shocker” and one he wasn't prepared for happening so soon:

But while Eric Weddle originally promised to retire from football if, indeed, the Ravens decided not to bring him back for another season, he's now changing his mind.

In fact, he said he has “no plans” to retire now that he's out of Baltimore, and he will be pursuing all his free-agency options.

He even said as much on his Twitter page:

From Baltimore's official website:

The Baltimore Ravens cutting Eric Weddle wasn’t avoidable. Take the emotion out of it and it is a pretty simple decision. … The Ravens weren’t getting enough production from the free safety position and Weddle cost too much. Weddle, who will be 35 this time next year, has a limited amount of football left in the tank. He ended his run with the Ravens as a Pro Bowl free safety, not as a liability to the team in a fight with father time.

It will be interesting to see where Eric Weddle ultimately ends up.
