The NFL was hit with its single-highest number of positive COVID-19 tests on Monday, with as many as 37 players reportedly testing positive and being placed on the COVID list, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Among the players to test positive were Los Angeles Rams' Tyler Higbee and Jalen Ramsey, Washington Football Team defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison, and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, along with many others.

The 37 positive tests were far and away the highest number of recorded by the NFL in a single day. To put the glaring increase into perspective, from Oct. 31-Nov. 13, the NFL recorded a total of 34 positive tests among players, and 47 positive tests when taking staff members into account, too. Monday saw a higher tally of positive tests than that entire two-week span, signalling an outbreak among NFL teams.

According to the NFL's records, 128 players tested positive for COVID-19 from Aug. 1-Nov. 13. 242 total individuals, including staffers, tested positive during that span.

It's unclear as of now how many of the 37 positive tests from Monday came from players, or how many were from staff members. Though regardless, the dramatic surge in cases is concerning as the season winds down.

The Miami Dolphins were among the teams hit the hardest by the latest outbreak, having now lost all three of the running backs on their roster, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, and Phillip Lindsay, to positive tests. Meanwhile, the Rams will be forced to play their Monday Night Football clash without Higbee or Ramsey due to their positive tests just hours before kickoff.
