Super Bowl MVP star quarterback Patrick Mahomes' brand new, massive contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs is turning heads on Monday, including that of veteran journeyman gunslinger Josh McCown.

McCown, 41, shared a comical reaction on social media to the 24-year-old Mahomes' 10-year, $500 million deal with the reigning Super Bowl champs, joking about whether the extension is “better” than “a 1 year deal with 10 teams”.

McCown, retired a second time after coming out of retirement to assist the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2019 season, played for nine different NFL franchises and signed deals with 11 total organizations, gaining a reputation as a well-traveled veteran roaming from city to city signing short-term contracts as the backup option in the quarterback depth chart.

Mahomes is both a Super Bowl MVP and league MVP in just three seasons in the NFL, one of which was spent behind then-Chiefs starter Alex Smith. Through two full-time years under center in Kansas City, Mahomes, the former 10th-overall selection in the 2017 draft, has already earned the richest contract in the history of professional sports.

McCown, on the other hand, waved through 11 different cities, starting 76 total regular-season games over the course of his 17-year NFL tenure. He first started with the Arizona Cardinals as a third-round pick in 2002, spending four seasons (the most with any franchise for McCown) before moving on to the Detroit Lions.

McCown had to sub in for Eagles starting signal-caller Carson Wentz in Philly's lone postseason game earlier this year in the 2019-20 playoffs, but he was no match for the Seattle Seahawks.
