NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was stabbed in Pittsburgh early Saturday morning. Though once in critical condition, Pryor is now in stable condition, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. He is expected to make a full recovery.
According to the Associated Press, police officers were called into the hospital, UPMC Mercy, after a stabbing victim walked into the hospital just after 4:30 a.m. There was no confirmation from a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman that the victim was Pryor. However, Allegheny County District Attorney spokesman Mike Manko confirmed, via AP, that the victim was indeed Pryor.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Pryor underwent surgery on Saturday morning. He suffered stab wounds to the shoulder and chest. According to NFL Media, he was stabbed at the Heinz Lofts apartment complex in Pittsburgh.
Pryor, 30, is a Pittsburgh native. He attended Ohio State University as a quarterback before ultimately switching to wide receiver in the NFL after failing to find productivity as a passer. In 2015, after his release from the Cincinnati Bengals, he announced his switch to wide-out, landing with the Cleveland Browns off of waivers.
Pryor eventually made the Browns' 53-man roster as a wide receiver, while sometimes dabbling at quarterback due to injuries. In 2016, he had his coming-out party at the position, tallying 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games at the position. He then signed a one-year $8 million deal with the Washington Redskins, where he suffered a dip in production.
Following his lone season in Washington, Pryor played sparingly for the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars. He is now a free agent.
