A couple of days after free agent linebacker Vontaze Burfict was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada for a misdemeanor battery charge and more details have emerged regarding the incident. Specifically, the reason why he got into a dispute that ultimately led to his arrest.

TMZ reports that Burfict, who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders in his NFL career that spanned eight seasons, was arrested for attacking a security guard at the Cosmopolitan Resort, Casino, and Hotel in Las Vegas. The reason for the dispute, however, is a bit unusual, as Burfict and another individual were reportedly looking for a restaurant called “Secret Pizza” inside the establishment.

“Secret Pizza,” however, is a hidden restaurant, and is supposedly at an unmarked location within the Cosmopolitan. Burfict and his companion were looking for the restaurant, but at some point felt that they were being followed by security, which led to an incident between the linebacker and security officers, which ended with the 30-year old being detained and eventually arrested once police arrived.

Burfict who had a bond set at $1,000, was released at his own recognizance, with a hearing for the case set to take place on Monday.

The linebacker went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft after playing for Arizona State, but found his way into the Bengals lineup and went on to play six seasons for Cincinnati. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and was also a Second Team All-Pro that season.

After being released by the Bengals at the end of 2019, he signed a one-year deal with the Raiders, then based in Oakland. However, he was ejected and subsequently suspended after multiple helmet-to-helmet hits during a game against the Indianapolis Colts. Burfict’s suspension was lifted at the end of the year, but he has been unable to find a new team.
