Brian Flores, the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins, is suing the NFL and a number of other teams because he believes he was not being treated with the respect that a black coach deserves. Other NFL teams, according to Brian Flores, are employing white men instead of black men, despite the fact that the black men interviewed have a better track record and should be the ones obtaining head coaching jobs.

Flores issued a lengthy statement in which he stated that he didn't care if he wasn't able to coach in the NFL again one day because he was doing it for other black people who aren't receiving the opportunities they deserve.

The NFL, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL, had the following to say regarding the allegations:

“The NFL and our clubs are deeply committed to ensuring equitable employment practices and continue to make progress in providing equitable opportunities throughout our organizations. Diversity is core to everything we do, and there are few issues on which our clubs and our internal leadership team spend more time. We will defend against these claims, which are without merit.”

It will be fascinating to watch where this case goes, but if any of the claims made by Brian Flores are accurate, the NFL will not be in a favorable legal position.

The lack of black coaches in the NFL is inexcusable, and Brian Flores' decision to speak out about the problem is a huge step forward for future black head coaches.
