The Atlanta Falcons are in a precarious spot in the offseason. In their bid to acquire ex-Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in a trade, the franchise all but said they were ready to deal long-time QB Matt Ryan. However, they, along with the rest of the league, were blindsided by Watson's decision to join the Cleveland Browns.
Now, many fans are wondering what the team does regarding their quarterback. As it turns out, though, Matt Ryan is willing to return to the Falcons—provided that he gets a long-term contract from them. (via JPA Football)
Rumors: #Falcons QB Matt Ryan wants a brand new 3-year deal from the team, per @LanceZierlein

Ryan is entering his age-37 season in 2022, and he's under contract with the team until 2023. The Falcons QB has shown that he can still play at a high level last season, getting just a shade under 4,000 passing yards. However, the franchise will obviously be cautious in giving him a long-term contract, especially since he could fall off a cliff all of a sudden due to his age.
The next option for the Falcons is to trade Ryan to a different team: something they told the QB prior to whiffing on Watson. However, there isn't a better or equal option at QB that Atlanta can acquire. Jimmy Garoppolo of the 49ers is still available, but trading one veteran QB for another would be rather weird.
After missing out on Watson, the Falcons are at a crossroads. They nearly destroyed their relationship with their old star by telling him that he may be traded. Now, Ryan shows that he's willing to return to the team but only if it's on a contract that will take him to his age-41 season.
What does Atlanta do in this situation?
