Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Ron Parker found a new team as he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. As Will McFadden of the team’s official website notes, Parker was attracted to Atlanta because he saw the whole organization as a “great fit” for him. He also believes the Falcons are not that far off from going out and winning the Super Bowl this year.
“What drew me here is that I’ve seen it’s a great fit,” Parker said. “They’ve got a great team — got great guys, all around. Special teams, defense, offense. I just think the organization fits my style. I’ve got some relationships with the coaches in here — Dan Quinn and Marquand [Manuel]. I saw them early in my career when I was in Seattle, so we have good background history just from knowing each other. I think this is a good organization for me to be with. Couple of steps off from winning the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, and I think we’re that close to getting it this year.”
The Falcons have been to the playoffs in back-to-back years and were on the verge of beating the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl back in 2016. That playoff run alone saw more playoff wins (2) than Parker experienced in four postseasons in five years with the Chiefs (1).
Parker had a first-hand experience in going up against that Falcons team in 2016, and it left quite an impression on him. He considers it “the best offense I’ve ever played since I’ve been in the league.”
Parker will now be tasked with helping out a Falcons defense which could use more depth at safety. He will likely be the primary back up for returning starters Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal.
