Since the Cleveland Browns made the decision to take former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, the team has remained firm on Tyrod Taylor as the clear-cut starter to start the 2018 season.
This was once again evident on Wednesday as Mayfield was seen taking reps with the third team behind Taylor and fellow veteran quarterback Drew Stanton, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

It is quite clear that Mayfield has a lot of work ahead of him to move up the depth chart this offseason in order to even be put in the conversation to be in the picture to challenge for the starting spot at any point this upcoming season. The Browns have already voiced much confidence in the 23-year-old's ability on the field, but the team has already got a plan in place with Taylor being the starter after acquiring him earlier this offseason.
This may be the case for the time being, but Mayfield will have a chance to prove himself in training camp and the preseason that he should be moved up the depth chart. However, it will be difficult with Taylor being a proven starting quarterback in the league that has had much success in his career over the last several years with the Buffalo Bills that includes helping the franchise snap a 17-year playoff drought this past season. a
If he can lead the Browns to any type of consistent success, it could be hard for Mayfield to see the field in 2018. Things could shift in the other direction if Taylor struggles or Cleveland remains a non-factor in the AFC heading toward another disappointing season. This may be out of his hands at this point, but the former Oklahoma product has the opportunity in front of him to work towards earning playing time in his rookie campaign.
