The Denver Broncos earned an improbable win over the New York Giants in Week 7, scoring 33 points in the fourth quarter. However, the end of their Giants battle will now affect Denver's Week 8 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw's one-game suspension has been upheld, via NFL Senior Vice President of Football and International Communications Michael Signora. Greenlaw was originally suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct against a referee.
The flag against Greenlaw actually came after the final whistle. Following the Broncos' game-winning field goal, the linebacker tracked down the ref and got into his face. Ultimately a flag was thrown despite the game being officially over.
Something caught my eye from Lutz's game-winning kick yesterday:
After the play, Dre Greenlaw runs after the ref, yelling at him, and the ref actually throws a flag.
It was after the play, and the game was over, so idk what happens.
Just a fine for Greenlaw? Something more? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/LqFTfPV0vV

The NFL decided to enforce Greenlaw's penalty at the start of the Broncos' next game. They clearly felt that whatever the linebacker said to the referee warranted the harsh punishment. Furthermore, they sent a message to the rest of the league how they feel about that kind of treatment towards officials.
Greenlaw's absence will be significant for the Broncos. The Giants matchup marked his season debut in Denver. Still, he managed to put up six tackles. The Cowboys' offense looks much more potent after hanging 44 points on the Washington Commanders.
But alas, the Broncos will need to find a way to stop Dak Prescott and company without Greenlaw. As Denver goes through the rest of their season, they'll be stressing to keep any beef with the referees inside their own locker room. They'll hope that at the very least Greenlaw gets the message of what the consequences could look like.
