The Detroit Lions entered their Week 1 primetime showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs with something to prove. Dan Campbell and his team had a ton of hype around them following their resurgence during the second half of last season. And on Thursday, Detroit made a statement by beating the defending Super Bowl champions in their backyard.

However, fans received some not-so-great news after the game. Left tackle Taylor Decker left Arrowhead Stadium in a walking boot. The veteran lineman suffered an ankle injury early in the game but didn't miss a snap.

On Friday, head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media for the first time since the win. He didn't provide any true update, but the Lions coach did remain optimistic about the situation.

“Look, we’ll know a lot more in a few days, but I’m encouraged because I know, there again, he finished out that game and we’re pretty good everywhere else,” Campbell said, via MLive.

Decker is no stranger to playing through some ailment of sorts. In fact, he once played through appendicitis. He has a streak of 1,212 consecutive snaps played. And he is one of two Lions linemen who played all offensive snaps in 2022.

“He played the whole game with (the ankle) and finished out, which, man, that was outstanding,” Campbell said, via MLive. “I mean Deck’s a tough SOB, man. So to watch him battle out there, it was impressive.”

Decker has time to recuperate before Detroit hits the field again. The Lions are off for the next nine days before they take on the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field for their much-anticipated home opener.
