Detroit Lions rookie running back Kerryon Johnson had been listed as questionable going into the team's matchup versus the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13. It appears he will be unable to take part in the action.
Johnson was sidelined last week with a knee injury. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, he will miss a second straight game:
No Kerryon Johnson, Nick Bellore or Brandon Powell for the Lions this week. Michael Roberts doubtful
This is certainly a crushing blow for Detroit. They are clearly already undermanned as it is going against a star-studded team like Los Angeles. They will now be without their lead back as well.
Johnson has shown plenty of promise in his rookie campaign. He quickly established himself as the most talented player in the Lions backfield.
Article Continues BelowAs a result, Detroit has had no problem with giving him double-digit touches in nearly every game this season. The former Auburn product has rushed for 641 yards and three touchdowns on 118 carries thus far.
It is safe to assume that Johnson would have had a field day against this porous Rams defense. Despite their talented front, Los Angeles has proven to be vulnerable against the run after giving up 119 yards per game this season.
Although Johnson may be out, it is still in Detroit's best interest to get the ground game going early. They will likely rely on a combination of running backs LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick in order to do so.
Despite their pass-happy approach, the Lions would be much better off keeping the ball away from the Rams' high-powered offense.
