Martha Ford has been the principal owner of the Detroit Lions since 2014, but that won't be the case in the upcoming season. According to Detroit's official Twitter account, Martha is stepping down as the owner of the Lions.

Upon Martha stepping down, her daughter — Sheila Ford Hamp — is going to succeed her as the principal owner and chairman of the franchise. Both Martha and Sheila released statements on the decision on Tuesday.

Back in 2014, Martha took over for William Clay Ford — her husband — as the owner of the Lions following his passing. Since Martha inherited the team, Detroit has compiled a 45-50-1 record.

Despite the team's recent struggles, the Lions decided to retain head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn for the 2020 NFL season. Under the new ownership of Sheila, fans in Detroit are hoping to see some positive changes in the near future.
