There is a newfound sense of optimism surrounding the Detroit Lions amidst the arrival of new head coach Matt Patricia. However, there has been some speculation regarding his first impressions with the team.

One writer suggested that Patricia's affinity for conditioning after mistakes can result in some indifference from the players. Wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. dispelled this notion during an appearance on NFL Network:

“Shoot, it’s football. We run. You know what I’m saying?” Jones said. “Nobody is complaining. Everybody is just going out here working hard and we’re having fun doing it. So, whoever’s grandma wrote that story, I don’t know.”

Patricia's approach should hardly come as any surprise considering he came from the coaching tree of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Regardless, it is encouraging to see Jones is already backing up his new coach.

Of course, extensive running is hardly uncommon for players at practice during this time of year. That said, it is hard to decide how much conditioning is too much for a team of professional athletes. Then again, Jones is much more suited to run than his larger peers so it may not even be an issue for him like it is for others.

The wideout is looking to build off of his career-year in the 2017 NFL season after hauling in 61 catches for 1,101 yards and nine touchdowns. At this point in his career, it is clear that Jones is willing to do whatever he can to break out in the 2018 NFL season.
