Detroit Lions star quarterback Matthew Stafford has been added back to the active roster, which means he's in line to play in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings assuming he tests negative for COVID-19 one more time.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network had the details.

Matthew Stafford never positive for COVID-19, but he had close contact with someone who did.

Assuming the gunslinger passes his last round of testing, it looks like the Lions will have Stafford in the lineup on Sunday versus the Vikings.

This is great news for the Lions, who would have likely had to start Chase Daniel versus Minnesota had Stafford not been able to play. Detroit is in third place in the NFC North standings with a record of 3-4. The Green Bay Packers (6-2) and Chicago Bears (5-3) are ahead of them.

In seven games this season, Stafford has thrown for 1,916 yards while completing 61.4 percent of his passes. The former No. 1 overall pick has 13 touchdown passes and five interceptions.

The Vikings are 2-5 on the season and in last place in the NFC North. However, they did upset the Packers in Week 8 at Lambeau Field, so the Lions certainly can't look past Minnesota.

Detroit will likely miss the playoffs this season, but games are always much more fun for Lions fans to watch on TV when Stafford is playing since he has one of the biggest arms in the NFL.
