The Detroit Lions logged their first victory in the past three games on Sunday, as they defeated the Washington Football Team, 30-27. The Lions did not come out of the contest unscathed, though, with Matthew Stafford suffering a thumb injury early in the contest.

A new update has been provided on the 32-year-old's status moving forward, and a new report has confirmed that Stafford has suffered a partial ligament tear on his thumb.

The good news here is that Stafford seems to be healthy enough to suit up for the Lions in their Week 11 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The thumb injury does sound significant, and the fact that it's on his throwing hand causes even more concern.

Nonetheless, the injury does not seem bad enough to force Stafford to miss any time. We just hope he doesn't aggravate the injury, as that will almost certainly lead to some time on the shelf.

Then again, it is also very much possible that Detroit errs on the side of caution here, and opt to have Stafford sit out the matchup against the 3-7 Panthers. Stafford is a pretty robust dude, and while he is expected to take the field on Sunday, he's not completely out of the woods just yet.

Stafford himself already shared his thoughts on his recent injury, and according to him, he does like his chances of suiting up against Carolina. Further updates should be provided within the week, but odds are, we should see Stafford play his usual role on Sunday.
