The Detriot Lions have added to their wide receiver depth signing Jermaine Kearse to a one year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal is worth $1.35 million with a maximum value of $2.3 million. Only $300,000 of the deal is guaranteed at this point.

Last season with the New York Jets, Kearse finished with just 37 catches for 371 yards and a touchdown. He was on the field a lot but was frustrated with his role and felt like he was put on the backburner.

“I felt that I wasn’t a part of it as much,” Kearse said via NewsDay. “I felt I got put on the back burner a little bit . . . For me coming off my best year statistically the year before, I had some very high expectations. It was just really frustrating and unfortunate that things didn’t go the way I expected, which happens sometimes. Do I think it played a role? Yes.”

Kearse said some of the issues were his own doing, but a lot of it was out of his control. Kearse's best year was in 2017 with the Jets when he hauled in 65 receptions for 810 yards and five touchdowns.

He joins Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, and Kenny Golladay on the Lions wide receiver depth chart. If he was frustrated with last years role on the Jets, hopefully, he comes in with different expectations for this season because there are four guys who will all be looking for targets.

This is a good veteran low-risk signing for the Lions and Matthew Stafford.
