The Green Bay Packers had their sights set on the Super Bowl in 2021, yet a disastrous Divisional Round showing against the 49ers saw the team get sent packing early. Among the various things to go wrong during the Packers' playoff defeat was the absolutely disastrous performance from Green Bay's special teams unit. The Packers had a field goal blocked by the Niners and conceded a touchdown on a brutal blocked punt. These failures prompted the Packers to make a change during the offseason, as the team plans to part ways with special teams coordinator Maurice Drayton, per Tom Silverstein.

Unfortunately for Drayton, the Packers' special teams' woes have finally caught up to him. The team was among the worst in football during the regular season when it came to special teams' performance, and their struggles in that department were on full display in the loss to San Francisco. Thus, the decision not to retain Drayton can't have been an overly difficult one.

While the Packers boasted one of the best defenses and offenses in football, their Achilles Heel was Drayton's subpar unit, and it cost them mightily on the biggest stage of the season.
Drayton took over as the Packers' special teams coordinator in 2021, having previously served as an assistant special teams' coach in Green Bay from 2018-2020. Prior to his stint with the Packers, Drayton had worked for two seasons as an assistant coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2016-17.
