Marquez Valdes-Scantling has a big year ahead of him. The young Green Bay Packers receiver had a promising rookie season, but he'll need to prove himself all over again.

The coaching staff that drafted him is no longer there, and he'll need to compete for every snap once again. Fortunately, things seem to be going well for Valdes-Scantling as the Packers transition into the Matt LaFleur era, according to Albert Breer of SI.com.

The 6′ 4″, 206-pound 24-year-old is faster than the new staff anticipated he’d be, and has quickly picked up Matt LaFleur’s system, which is significantly different than Mike McCarthy’s. You know how big Aaron Rodgers’s arm is, and the Packers quarterback hasn’t been able to overthrow him in OTAs. Add Valdes-Scantling’s emergence to Jimmy Graham surprising the staff with his still-there movement skills, and it looks like Green Bay is going to have ways to take the pressure off No. 1 receiver Davante Adams.

Adams is locked in as the No. 1 receiver, but after that things are a bit unsettled. The Packers let Randall Cobb go this offseason, and there will be an all-out battle in training camp to settle the pecking order.

Geronimo Allison will be right there, as will fellow second-year receiver Equanimeous St. Brown. In 16 games and ten starts last year, Valdes-Scantling had 38 catches for 581 yards and two touchdowns.

He had several huge weeks, and it was an overall great showing for someone who was the 174th overall pick in the draft last year. Given the recent reports, it sounds like the South Florida product should be able to build on those numbers considerably in 2019.
