The Green Bay Packers have a big season ahead of them, and so does Trevor Davis. The young receiver is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, so this is a make or break year for him.
Davis hasn't put up big numbers during his brief pro career, but he has flashed potential. That being said, he's also at risk of getting buried on the depth chart as the Packers have added several talented young receivers through the draft recently, including Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Davis only played in two games last year due to multiple serious hamstring injuries, so 2018 was essentially a lost year. Still, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report recently gave one big sleeper for all 32 teams, and he picked Davis for the Packers.
Article Continues Below“The Packers selected Davis in the fifth round of the 2016 draft, but thus far, he's contributed more on special teams than on offense. The 26-year-old has recorded a combined 1,239 punt and kick return yards in addition to eight receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown through three seasons,” Moton writes.
“Davis may find it difficult to move into one of the top three spots on the receiver depth chart, but he could catch the coaching staff's attention as a reliable, speedy downfield threat and occasional gadget-play ball-carrier in LaFleur's offense,” he continued.
Moton also points out that new coach Matt LaFleur had some high praise for Davis when asked about him recently. The only time Davis played a significant role on offense was in 2017 when he had 24 catches for 289 yards.
He's blazing fast and has big-play potential, so he could be an excellent fit with Aaron Rodgers. He'll be an interesting player to monitor in camp, and if he gets enough opportunities, he could start to break out as Moton suggests.
