The Green Bay Packers are without question one of the most intriguing teams to keep an eye on this season. After missing the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, the Packers have re-tooled and they believe that they can get back into contention in the NFC.

One of the biggest question marks for the Packers at this point in time is the inside linebacker position. Oren Burks, who was penciled in as a starter, suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the preseason and will miss some time. That leaves a starting spot open for the Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears.

According to a report from Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers are likely going to start rookie linebacker Ty Summers this week.

Summers showed big-time potential during the preseason and showed major fight and passion. He may be a rookie, but he has an endless motor and might be exactly what the Packers need. Matt LaFleur certainly likes what he has seen from the linebacker.

Green Bay drafted Summers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the No. 226 overall pick. It was a move that many thought would end when 53-man roster cuts came around. That obviously was not the case.

At 6-foot-1 and a shade over 240 pounds, Summers has great size and athleticism at the linebacker position. He may never become a “star” in the NFL, but he very well could end up being a great role player. Summers will get the opportunity to show that this week.

The Packers will take on the Bears on Thursday night. Make sure to tune in to see one of the best rivalries in sports and to see a rookie with great passion make his first career start.
