The Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash during the 2018 NFL season with the acquisition of running back Carlos Hyde. However, it appears his time in Jacksonville will be short-lived.

Hyde is coming off a disappointing 2018 campaign. According to WJXL Jacksonville, it would not make much sense for the Jaguars to keep him around this offseason.

It should be an easy decision to move on from Hyde. Jacksonville can avoid guaranteeing Hyde's $2 million salary and a $1 million roster bonus if they release him before the third day of the new league year.

The prospect of Hyde being released is certainly not too far-fetched. The move was questionable to begin with. Jacksonville gave up a fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for him at the trade deadline due to their ailing backfield at the time. Unfortunately, he failed to make an impact during the second half of the season.

Hyde was virtually non-existent in the Jaguars run-heavy offense. He averaged just 3.26 yards per carry with no touchdowns in eight games. He had even voiced his displeasure with his lack of involvement following the trade. Now that Jacksonville is trying to iron things out with running back Leonard Fournette, it would not be beneficial for either side to try again next season.

The 2018 campaign certainly did not do any favors for Hyde's potential value on the market. Despite his struggles down the final stretch of the 2018 campaign, he has still shown plenty of potential as an early-down back. He will need to find a team that is desperate to establish any semblance of a run game.
