The Jacksonville Jaguars just hired Doug Pederson to be their next head coach after the Urban Meyer debacle, and they're set to make another major move: adding an executive vice president of football operations to work under general manager Trent Baalke.
Jaguars owner Shad Khan revealed the plan on Saturday, per ESPN's Michael DiRocco:

So some of the practices, some of the structure that works, we got great insight into it. Strengthening the football operations, more staff, that's part of our goal. We've had too flat an organization and we want to add brainpower and more people to strengthen that.”
The Jaguars used to employ Tom Coughlin in the EVP role, but he was fired in 2019 and Khan didn't hire a replacement. He has apparently seen the error of his ways and wants to bring in another person to add to the collective “brainpower” in the organization.
There has been some controversy surrounding Baalke and his job status, with the general manager's presence apparently being a reason why Byron Leftwich didn't get the head coaching job. The coaching search was a bit of a whirlwind after the Meyer mess, but winding up with a Super Bowl-winning coach is still a solid result.
The Jaguars still have a lot of work to do after yet another disastrous season, and this new hire is going to play a key role in that.
