The Jacksonville Jaguars finally have a franchise quarterback capable of taking them deep into the playoffs. Still, if the team's standout offensive line is any indication, that hardly means coach Doug Marrone's team will be abandoning its time-honored smashmouth identity offensively.

Early in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Jaguars traded the No. 38 overall pick and a fourth-round selection to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for the 35th overall pick, a fifth-round choice, and a seventh-rounder. They subsequently selected University of Florida offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor at No. 35, once considered a potential top-10 pick who inexplicably slid on draft night. After drafting Taylor, Jacksonville executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin said acquiring him “legitimately made the draft” for Jacksonville.

Taylor, at 6-foot-5, 312 pounds, fits what the Jaguars want from their offensive linemen as a mauler in the run game with a nasty disposition. His relative lack of quickness may prevent him from becoming a Pro Bowler, but Taylor nevertheless has many of the attributes run-first teams are looking for at right tackle.

He joins an offensive line that features promising left tackle Cam Robinson, left guard and 2017 All-Pro Andrew Norwell, veteran starting center Brandon Linder, and right guard A.J. Cann, who signed a contract extension with Jacksonville after the season.

The luster has worn off former top-five pick Leonard Fournette after a shaky 2018 season both on and off the field, but he remains a mega-talented runner who will be a focal point of the Jaguars' offensive attack. If both Fournette and quarterback Nick Foles maintain a clean bill of health in 2019, Jacksonville seems poised to be far better offensively this season – and a re-fortified offensive line will be one of the biggest reasons why.
