Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer is keen on having a revamp on his roster heading to his debut season with the team. Aside from the expected Trevor Lawrence pick as their presumptive quarterback, he bared that he is also focusing on adding depth upfront and bringing in more capable players on the defensive end of the field.

Via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

“I always believe you build your team around the defensive line, and then you move backwards — so that’s what we’re going to do. . . . There is one commonality of great teams: they have great defensive lines,” Meyer said, via the team’s website. “You can’t avoid that. There are ways to hide other things, but you have to have a strong defensive line. We’re committed to do that here.”

The Jaguars previously ended their 2020 season with an inexperienced offensive unit along with an inconsistent defensive corps on the opposite end. Due to their struggles, they only managed to garner a 1-15 record for the fourth spot in the AFC South last season. However, it was a short-term struggle that's now positioned them for a potentially long-term plan going forward.

Meyer and company have the capacity to do a major facelift on their lineup since they have plenty of available cap space to work with heading to next season. They also have a handful of promising players in defensive end Josh Allen and defensive end DaVon Hamilton.

In addition, Meyer is aiming to maximize the services of defensive tackle Taven Bryan and K'Lavon Chaisson upon entering their sophomore campaign in the league. On that note, fans can expect the Jaguars to make significant moves in the draft and make a splash in free agency in a bid to address their needs on the field.

Needless to say, the Jaguars will have to improve on both offense and defense if they want to give themselves a better chance of winning games next season. However, it seems like Urban Meyer is putting most emphasis on the defensive line which will hopefully catapult the team to attain greater success moving forward.
