The Oakland Raiders are officially done with Antonio Brown, as they released the wide receiver last week before he went on to sign with the New England Patriots.
The Raiders then played their season opener on Monday night, beating the Denver Broncos by a score of 24-16.
After the game, quarterback Derek Carr addressed the situation with Brown and holds no ill will toward his now-former wide out.
“Let’s get the elephant out of the room,” Carr told Diani Russini of ESPN. “Antonio is no longer with us. We love Antonio. We wish him the best, but we knew with the guys we had in our locker room we already had a good football team. If he wanted to be a part of it, awesome. If he didn’t, awesome. We’re going to come out here and we still have to play a game. We wish him the best. I hope he goes off and has a great year. But the guys in this locker room, the guys that competed during training camp, all offseason, we grinded and came together. We’re a family, and this family is pretty special and I’m glad the quarterback is a part of it.”
Carr had a strong performance on Monday evening, completing 22 of his 26 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown, an outing that had to feel good after the rough 2018 campaign he experienced.
Tyrell Williams was Carr's favorite target in the first game, as he caught six passes for 105 yards and a score. Williams was originally expected to be Carr's No. 2 receiver, but with Brown now gone, Williams probably takes over as the No. 1 guy.
In addition, rookie running back Josh Jacobs had a solid debut, rushing for 85 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Oakland will play host to the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday.
