The Las Vegas Raiders could be without starting running back Josh Jacobs for a second consecutive game this weekend.
Jacobs, who missed last week due to an ankle injury, was listed as questionable on the team's injury report. He has not been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, but Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said earlier this week Jacobs was not expected to play.
The former Alabama standout suffered the ankle injury during an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12.
Las Vegas learned immediately thereafter Jacobs' ankle was not as bad as initially feared, but he was still held out for the team's Week 13 win over the New York Jets. Obviously, Jacobs missed out on quite a bit of drama.
The Raiders were in serious danger of losing to the winless Jets and falling to 6-6 on the year. Las Vegas trailed New York in the final seconds, but Derek Carr found Henry Ruggs III for an improbable 46-yard touchdown pass.
Of course, the play seemed more than just improbable. Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams inexcusably deployed man coverage with no safety help over top. Speculation suggesting Williams intentionally dialed up the scheme eventually ended with Williams losing his job, though the Raiders sure were glad to chalk another one up in the win column.
But the task gets much harder against a Colts defense that is among the best in the league. The Raiders already struggle to run the ball even with Jacobs in the backfield, and it could be even tougher against an Indy front featuring DeForest Buckner.
Las Vegas is likely to make an official determination on Jacobs' status soon.
