The Las Vegas Raiders have added depth to their defensive line by signing Solomon Thomas to a one-year, $5 million contract, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Coming out of Stanford, Thomas displayed uncommon quickness for his position and was a disruptive force capable of playing all over the line. During the 2017 edition of the draft, the San Francisco 49ers were considered as one of the winners as they acquired the player they wanted, Thomas after trading down with the Chicago Bears to the third overall selection.

Last season, Thomas only played in two games, as he suffered a serious, ACL injury. Since entering the league in 2017 he has a total of six sacks. The 49ers had a stacked defensive line, so if given enough playing time, Thomas could be a productive defender for the Raiders and thrive with a fresh start.

This is a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Raiders. He could be their Nelson Agholor next season, albeit with a higher contract figure. Playing in the same division with Mahomes and a rapidly-improving Justin Herbert, getting to the passer is made even more important.

At 25-years old, Thomas still has time before the bust label becomes a permanent mark in his career.
