Preseason is already over and the Oakland Raiders have apparently made zero progress with the Khalil Mack contact talks. The Raiders’ defensive star continues to hold out for a massive new contract extension, which doesn’t look like it’s coming anytime soon.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders and Mack are “essentially nowhere” in their talks with just over a week to go before the start of the regular season.

“From what I understand, the Raiders and Khalil Mack are essentially nowhere … this is a very interest test for (Jon Gruden). The spotlight is very clearly on Jon Gruden,” Rapoport said. “You have one of their best players — if not their No. 1 best player — who is unhappy, who does not have a current offer. He’s had no real negotiations with the team since February. The longer this goes without an end in sight, the more likely it is that Khalil Mack will actually miss regular season games.”

Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports reported earlier this week that Mack will likely miss regular season games due to the apparent lack of progress made one the contract talks.

There's also talk around the league that the Raiders want two first-round picks for any trade involving Mack, although they are not yet motivated to trading him away at this time.

But with the bleak status of the whole situation, it seems more and more likely that the Raiders will have to consider going the trade route more seriously sooner rather than later.
