Jacoby Brissett (ARI) – Rostered in 1.7% of leagues

Starting quarterback Kyler Murray remains a question mark heading into the Cardinals Week 9 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, opening the door for backup veteran Jacoby Brissett to make another start in relief. Brissett most recently started in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers where he notably had a solid outing, posting 19.76 fantasy points with 279 yards and two touchdowns. The game prior, he posted 320 yards and two touchdowns for 24.7 fantasy points.

Of course, this all depends on whether starting QB Murray is ready to go or not, but the Cardinals can rest easy knowing they have a viable starting option in Brissett. He's had his moments in the fantasy spotlight and for Kyler Murray fantasy managers, could be a solid handcuff to stash if the starter is unable to go once again.

Furthermore, the Cardinals draw a porous defense in the Dallas Cowboys, allowing the second-most (258.6) average passing yards to opposing quarterbacks. The matchup has an implied game total of 52.5 making it the highest of Week 9, so don't be surprised if we see a shootout between these two quarterbacks on Monday Night Football.

Mac Jones (SF) – Rostered in 3.7% of leagues

With starting quarterback Brock Purdy still dealing with his turf toe injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan and his staff are rolling with Mac Jones to start Week 9 against the New York Giants. Jones has been sensational as a starter this season, throwing for 1,597 yards and eight touchdowns while leading his team to four wins along the way.

The San Francisco 49ers will have some serious decision to make once Brock Purdy returns to full health as Jones has been doing a fine job leading this offense and getting the ball to RB Christian McCaffrey. It'll be interesting to see if they'll keep Jones as the starter or if Purdy expects to return to his usual role.

Nevertheless, the last few games for Mac Jones have been sub-par with fantasy totals of 15.18, 5.18, and 18.02 over his last three starts. They'll face a much better defensive matchup in the New York Giants, so expect the offense to allow Mac Jones in slinging the football downfield throughout this game. For Brock Purdy managers, Mac Jones could be the deciding factor in winning your weekly matchup.

JJ McCarthy (MIN) – Rostered in 25.7% of leagues

Making his first start since Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons, Vikings' quarterback JJ McCarthy will return to action following his ankle injury. McCarthy reportedly feels “amazing” heading into Week 9 and he's had ample time to rest and learn the rest of this offense. It's unfortunate the way QB Carson Wentz's season had to end, but the Vikings are looking forward to McCarthy growing within this system once again.

However, the Vikings will have an extremely tough matchup against the Detroit Lions, boasting one of the better defensive units in the NFL. Full of veterans, the Lions' defense should thrive against an inexperienced quarterback like McCarthy and mistakes are bound the be made. However, given his historical record as a starter, the Vikings believe JJ McCarthy gives them their best chance for an upset over Detroit.

McCarthy had a sensational performance against the Bears in Week 1 and his fantasy stock may be undervalued given the injury. The Vikings will trust him to make passes in the red zone, so he should have opportunities to score the ball. With new teams heading into another bye, McCarthy isn't a terrible option to have at quarterback in Week 9.
