Very early on in their Week 1 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Los Angeles Chargers suffered a pretty big blow. Linebacker Drue Tranquill appeared to sustainvery nasty injury,

It ended with him being put into an air cast, and carted off the field. Players from both teams were surrounding him to wish him well. It was not a pretty scene.

With that in mind, a lot of people were curious to see what the actual injury was. And it appears we might now have the answer to that.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Twitter, early reports indicate that Tranquill has broken his ankle.

Obviously, this is pretty terrible news. Tranquill has already had a long history of injuries. The linebacker has already had multiple torn ACLs. And he's only just 25.

Of course, those ACL injuries were while Tranquill was still in college at Notre Dame, but that does not make this situation any better for the Chargers.

It is a massive blow for the Chargers. They are already trying to navigate this season without superstar safety Derwin James. Now they have to try and get around another injury.

As the reports are not finalized or anything yet, it is hard to be clear with a timetable. However, ankle injuries are never fun. And it is pretty safe to assume this would take a pretty large chunk out of the season for Tranquill. Sadly, that's a best case scenario for the Chargers.

Hopefully the reports come back a little bit better than indicated at the moment. Hopefully Tranquill can make a full recovery and return to the football field sooner, rather than later, for the Chargers.

It was certainly devastating to see him carted off the field on Sunday. The Chargers picked up the win but would probably much rather deal have had their linebacker healthy.

We will wait for more news as it comes in and all we can really do is hope for something positive.
