Melvin Gordon is finally ending his holdout with the Los Angeles Chargers but he definitely paid the price by remaining away from the team. According to Adam Schefter, Gordon's holdout cost him nearly $2 million.

The Chargers running back will face over $1 million in fines and will lose out on nearly $1 million in salary for the first three games he missed. Gordon will still earn nearly $5 million in salary for the rest of the season with Los Angeles.

At the beginning of training camp, Gordon shared his intention to holdout from the team in hopes to land a long-term extension. Despite the front office stating that they wouldn't negotiate a deal until after the 2019 season, the running back stayed true to his word.

The dynamic running back's holdout seeped into the regular season but it has come with a price. Now, Gordon has ended his holdout and is back with the Chargers this week.

Unlike the Le'Veon Bell situation, Gordon doesn't have the choice of sitting out the entire season; as Gordon is still under contract for this year. On top of that, it doesn't help that Austin Ekeler is hurting his value by producing at an elite level in the first three weeks.

In light of that, Gordon is returning to the Chargers after the team has started the season with a 1-2 record. The Wisconsin product has returned to the team, but he won't suit up in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how much of a workload that Gordon receives for the rest of the year. Either way, it seems as if the Chargers and Gordon are heading for a breakup after the 2019 season.
