The Los Angeles Chargers lost a heartbreaker on Sunday night. With their playoff lives on the line, the Chargers needed a tie or a win against the Las Vegas Raiders to sneak into the postseason. Despite their best efforts, the Raiders took the win and the final wild card spot over the team.

Despite that, there's some silver lining to this loss: Justin Herbert proving he's worth all the hype surrounding him. The Chargers quarterback was incredibly clutch in their comeback attempt, throwing two clutch touchdowns to tie the game. One of those touchdowns cemented his status as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, on par with Dolphins legend Dan Marino.

In his first two seasons in the league, Herbert has time and time again proven that the Chargers made the right selection with him. In their Week 18 tilt versus the Raiders, he came up clutch again, converting multiple fourth downs to keep the team alive in the last two minutes, before throwing a dart to Mike Williams to set up overtime.

Unfortunately, the Chargers defense couldn't hold up their end. The Raiders steamrolled their way into field-goal range in the final possession of overtime (along with an untimely timeout from Brandon Staley). With that loss, the Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers punched their ticket to the postseason.

Still, there's a lot to be excited about with the Chargers, especially with Herbert under center. Next season could be their year, if the front office can figure out ways of complementing their QB's strengths and supporting him with more defensive pieces.
