The Los Angeles Chargers didn't envision their season going the way it has and the last thing they need is an injury to one of their key contributors. Unfortunately, Keenan Allen missed practice on Thursday as he's dealing with a hamstring injury.
On Wednesday, Allen wasn't on the team's injury report and was a full participant in practice. Therefore, it's slightly concerning that the Pro-Bowl wideout has been added to the injury report this late in the week. We will know the severity of the injury depending on his status in Friday's practice session.
To begin his career, Allen was hindered by injuries that prevented him from becoming one of the NFL's best wide receivers. Furthermore, in his first four seasons in the NFL, Philip Rivers' go-to target missed 26 games due to injury; including 15 games in 2016 with a torn ACL.
Fortunately, from 2017-2018, Allen was able to be active in all 32 games for the Chargers. As a matter of fact, he won the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2017 with a career-high 102 receptions for 1,393 yards and six touchdowns.
Article Continues BelowThis season, the 27-year-old wide receiver has been the focal point of Los Angeles' offense. Through the first seven weeks, Allen has caught 44 passes for 564 yards and three touchdowns.
The Chargers are thin at the wide receiver position with Travis Benjamin and Dontrelle Inman on injured reserve. Therefore, if Allen is unable to go, the receiving corps would become Mike Williams, Geremy Davis, and Andre Patton.
Regardless of his status, the team has begun using Hunter Henry in a more prominent role in the aerial attack. Henry has caught 14 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns since returning from injury in Week 6.
