Los Angeles Chargers placekicker Michael Badgley injured his groin during Friday's practice and is considered questionable for Sunday's Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

On the injury, head coach Anthony Lynn noted that his groin got “a little tight.”

“We’ll give him a couple of days to rest, and we’ll look at him on Sunday,” he said, per Gilbert Manzano of the Southern Cal News Group. “It just happened in practice. Just got a little tight. Any time I lose a starter, it’s concerning. I have a lot of confidence in our backup, though.”

According to ESPN, if Badgley is out, the Chargers will enlist the help of punter Ty Long, who the Chargers plucked from the Canadian Football League. Playing for the B.C. Lions, he handled both punting and kicking duties.

The Chargers signed Badgley midway through the 2018 season after struggling with kicking woes to start off the year. The then-rookie immediately proved to be the right option at the position. The former Miami Hurricane made 15 of his 16 attempts, including a franchise-long field goal of 58 yards in a Week 14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He made all but one of his 28 extra-point attempts.

Badgley's five field goals made against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs is a franchise-high number, as is his 93.8 percent field goal completion rate.

After one season of play, the Chargers gave Badgley the honor of kicking for them full-time. Without him, the Chargers have historically struggled in drilling kicks. Hopefully, he plays on Sunday for the sake of Chargers faithful.
