After missing the Los Angeles Chargers’ last four games due to a concussion, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is now set to make his return to action.
As noted by the NFL Network’s Taylor Bisciotti, Samuel has been cleared from the concussion protocol and is in line to start in the Chargers' upcoming Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Samuel’s rookie campaign has been marred by a pair of concussions suffered over the past two months. He came away from his team’s home loss to the New England Patriots with a concussion, which then forced him to miss the road encounter with the Philadelphia Eagles in the following week.
Samuel was later cleared to play in Week 10 against the Minnesota Vikings, but he proceeded to suffer another concussion in the following week against the Pittsburgh Steelers after tackling running back Najee Harris.
Article Continues BelowThis time around, the Chargers opted for a more conservative stance in dealing with Samuel's second concussion of the season. Chargers head coach Brandon Staley noted following his team’s win over Pittsburgh that the wellness of his players is the team’s “biggest priority.”
Staley elected to sideline Samuel from practice until Week 14 when he was a limited participant over the week.
The former Florida State star was a full participant in practice this week, which played into the team’s decision to give him the green light to play against the Texans.
Samuel and the Chargers secondary will look to do their part to keep the team in a wild-card spot in the AFC playoff picture with a possible win over the Texans.
