Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has made it clear he wants a new contract or to be traded and right now it doesn't look like that new contract is coming anytime soon.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, right now the expectation is that Gordon won't be reporting to camp anytime soon, which means that the two sides must not be close to a new deal.
While the two sides exchanged proposals in recent days, there is mounting pessimism Chargers’ holdout Melvin Gordon will be reporting anytime soon and his holdout threatens to go into the regular season, per sources. Time to rely on Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson, Detrez Newsome.

Gordon is entering the final year of his rookie deal and will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason if no deal can be reached be before next year.
Article Continues BelowOne guy that is supportive of Gordon holding out is Le'Veon Bell, who held out all of last season in hopes of getting a new deal.
“I’m proud of him,” Bell said Thursday on the Jets’ first day of training camp via the New York Post. “He knows his worth. That’s a guy that I’ve talked to. I know him since he was at Wisconsin and I was at Michigan State. Me and him have a nice little bond. I’m proud of him. I’m always going to support him because he feels like he knows his worth. I hope he gets what he deserves.”
It will be interesting to see if Gordon goes the same path as Bell and holds out all season, or if he will decide he wants his paycheck and report to the team. Without Gordon, the team will be leaning on Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson, and Detrez Newsome to pick up the slack.
