The Los Angeles Chargers made a huge splash last offseason with the addition of safety Tre Boston and while the kid enjoyed a stellar year with the Bolts, his future with the team is anything but guaranteed.Boston is set to become a free agent this offseason after the Chargers got him for a bargain price last year. Although he would admittedly like to stay in Los Angeles for the long-haul, Boston said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio that his primary focus will be playing for a contender:
“Of course L.A. is definitely somewhere I would love to be, but it's a business, everybody knows how that goes. I want to find somewhere that I fit in well.. somewhere that we have a chance of going to the Super Bowl.”
Unfortunately for the Chargers, the jury is still put on whether they are a legitimate playoff contender. Los Angeles got off to a disastrous start to the 2017 NFL season before they were able to finish on a high note by winning six of their last seven games. They even had a shot at the playoffs thanks to a lackluster AFC West Division in 2017, however, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to seal the deal.
That said, it seems Boston will be keeping a close eye on which of his suitors will be the most championship-ready by this offseason. Should he ultimately decide to sign somewhere else, it would be his third team in less than two seasons after being cut by the Carolina Panthers shortly after the 2017 NFL Draft.
Boston filled an integral role with the Chargers after playing more snaps on defense than any other player.
